ULI Pittsburgh Young Leaders

Are you...

  • A young professional looking to broaden your knowledge and perspective on the real estate industry?
  • Looking for professional networking opportunities?
  • Curious to learn what the decision makers and most active players in the Pittsburgh and national real estate markets think about the hottest real estate issues of the day?

The Urban Land Institute Pittsburgh Young Leadership Group (YLG) is an excellent opportunity for you to do all of these things!

What is the Pittsburgh ULI / YLG?

Started in 2004, the Pittsburgh ULI / YLG is a sub-group of ULI’s Pittsburgh District Council and one of 38 national Young Leaders Groups sponsored by a local District Council.

The mission of the YLG is to:

  • reach out to the next generation of industry leaders

  • provide an opportunity to learn and grow as young real estate professionals in Pittsburgh by offering unique and exciting programs

The Pittsburgh ULI / YLG has a growing membership comprised of developers, architects, contractors, real estate brokers, lawyers and accountants.

To join ULI as a young leader, click here.  The ULI has created a special membership category for those under 35 years old, reducing dues to just $150 per year and meeting registration fees to $10-25.

What does Pittsburgh ULI / YLG do?

Pittsburgh ULI/YLG hosts these signature programs:

  • Tours of exciting new developments in the Pittsburgh area; recent events have included: Eastside Development near Whole Foods and Allegheny City
  • Partnership Forums
  • Networking Events
  • Case Study Competition

Pittsburgh ULI / YLG is evolving and always looking for creative ideas for new programming and added value for our members.  If you are interested in volunteering YOUR time to help create and implement new programming, please contact Bill Buettin buettin@fnb-corp.com to learn about how you can participate in the ULI / YLG steering committee!

Who's in Charge?

Young Leaders Group Steering Committee

Our YLG (Young Leaders Group) is amazing and working under the leadership of a YLG Steering Committee.  This leadership body helps to manage those members under the age of 35 by planning and orchestrating events that are dynamic and happening about once every other month.   The YLG is also partnering with other like-minded orgaizations in Pittsburgh to have great mixers and networking opportunities regularly.

Our 2009/2010 Committee includes:

Christina Bucciero, Vice Co-Chair, YLG
Max Dizard, Vice Co-Chair, YLG

What's Next?

SAVE THE DATE: On October 1, 2009, Tucker Arensberg, P.C. and Grubb & Ellis will sponsor the ULI Young Leader's Group fall program: Legal Issues in Real Estate. This educational program will feature a panel discussion of real estate attorneys representing the perspectives of in-house counsel, outside counsel, as well as lawyers working in the non-profit and corporate sectors. Confirmed panelists include Anne Nelson, Esq., General Counsel, Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation; Irving S. Firman, Esq., Shareholder, Tucker Arensberg, P.C; and Vincent E. Zappa, Esq., General Counsel, Zamagias Properties. The event will take place in the PPG Conference Center located at One PPG Place with a happy hour to follow in Market Square. Look for additional information on this program in upcoming ULI blasts.

Partnership Forums

Partnership Forums are formal groups of 5-8 YLG members with varied real estate backgrounds and an experienced full ULI member who meet over the course of a year to network, discuss real estate issues, and learn from each other's experience and knowledge in the real estate industry.  The Partnership Forums also provide an environment to broaden networks and develop lasting associations.

This program is the first of its kind in Pittsburgh to provide young real estate professionals with the opportunity to gain from the knowledge of experienced local practitioners in a small group setting.  Our first Partnership Forums had enough interest to put together two complete forums, running concurrently under the mentorship of Jack Norris, CBRE and Frank Zappala, The First City Company in 2008.  2009 offered a third forum PFIII, under the direction of full member, David DeSimone.  With growing success and interest, we are anticipating PFIV to kick off early 2010.

Partnership Forums are an exclusive opportunity available at no cost, though ONLY to Pittsburgh ULI / YLG members. Membership is aggressively priced for the Young Leader at just $250 annually (available for those under the age of 35).

Membership with the Urban Land Institute at the YL level,  offers many of the benefits of full ULI membership to the real estate leaders of tomorrow including Urban Land magazine, reduced pricing on all publications, annual forecast and trends reports, reduced fees to ULI meetings, schools, conferences and workshops, access to ULI’s on-line resources and archives, and the opportunity to become involved with the Pittsburgh District Council and more!  Contact our PF coordinator, Mara Peluso to learn more and consider participation in our 2010 forum.
