About
ULI Pittsburgh is a District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). As the oldest, preeminent, multidisciplinary real estate forum, ULI is a 501(c)3 nonprofit education and research group supported by its diverse, expert membership base. Founded in 1936, ULI has grown to almost 45,000 members worldwide, representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines working in private enterprise and public service.
ULI does not lobby or act as an advocate of any single industry. We examine land use issues, impartially report findings, and convene forums to find solutions to complex land use problems, collaborating with industry and stakeholder groups worldwide.
Our mission is to shape the future of the built environment for transformative impact in communities worldwide.
We bring together leaders from across the fields of real estate and land use policy to exchange best practices and serve community needs. We share knowledge through education, applied research, publishing, electronic media, events, and programs. Our programs offer individuals and corporations the ability to get involved and participate in areas of interest to them that directly impact their business or the future of their City.
ULI has been influencing the development of the Pittsburgh region since 1989. Don Carter (CMU, Remaking Cities Institute) and Jack Norris (CBRE) started ULI Pittsburgh after they saw the value of ULI and what it could bring to the region. Through the years, there have been eight Advisory Services Panels focusing on developing specific locations, including the Cultural District, Point Park University, the East End, McKees Rocks, and the East Shore. ULI Pittsburgh has partnered with PCRG to present the Community Development Summit, now in its 15th year. Our Young Leaders Group has been active in expanding the reach to members in the early parts of their careers since 2007. Our Women’s Leadership Initiative started in 2013 and has increased our female membership to nearly 40 percent.
