Member Spotlight

Derrick L. Tillman is the President and CEO of Bridging the Gap Development, LLC. He has been in the Real estate industry for over 15 years and specializes in Real estate Development, commercial/residential brokerage & leasing, Real estate deal structuring and negotiation, as well as creative financing.  

Tillman joined ULI in 2018 and was a speaker at ULI Pittsburgh program: Real Estate Roundup 2017. Some of his accomplishments include: PUMP 40 Under 40, BMe Genius Award, and University of Pittsburgh AAAC Rising Leaders Award. He has also served on countless expert panels, including but not limited to: NAPHN Passive House International Conference Speaker, P4 Conference on Equitable & Sustainable Development, and Regional Clean Energy Stakeholders Forum. He has also been written about and/or quoted in many local and national newspaper articles, including the New York Times.

Bridging the Gap Development, LLC (“BTG”), founded in 2006, is a diversified real estate development firm based in Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Tillman leads the company’s mission to rebuild sustainable communities through residential & commercial development by “bridging the [real estate and opportunity] gaps” in a community. In order to achieve this goal, BTG develops a variety of projects including multifamily affordable housing, market rate rental and homeownership properties, as well as mixed-use and commercial development projects. As a board member of the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Housing Opportunity Fund, Tillman continues to work to ensure that all Pennsylvanians, especially the most vulnerable, have access to a home within reach. The firm has also been able to use their business acumen to innovatively train many unemployed and underemployed individuals with construction and/or weatherization skills. BTG, itself a Minority Business Enterprise, is committed to providing opportunities to other M/WBEs.
