ULI YLG Pittsburgh hosted an event at the Helm on the Allegheny (2239 Railroad Street in the Strip District) that maxed out attendance for the Helm’s community room space.  The Helm on the Allegheny is a brand-new multifamily development, built by Steel Street Capital Partners and Oxford Development, that features 219 units.  These apartments include market-rate, affordable, and co-living units.  Because the balconies are oriented in a unique sawtooth shape, 81% of units have private balconies with views of the river.

Brandon Guy, the President and Founder of Steel Street Capital, spoke to the group and conducted Q&A after the great tour guides led attendees on tours of the building’s units.  Brandon’s talk was phenomenal!  He discussed the challenges in developing the building with a portion dedicated to co-living units because this type of setup is unique in the market.  These units have proven to be successful now that they’ve leased up.  Brandon talked about building the Helm during the pandemic and addressed the efforts around site selection and exterior/interior design.  The sponsor of the event was Oxford Development.

The conversation and learning were fun, the food and drinks were tasty, and the views of the city and the river were breathtaking.  The future of Steel Street Capital, the Helm on the Allegheny, and Pittsburgh’s Strip District are all bright!
