Matthew Galluzzo has dedicated his career to serving Pittsburgh and its neighborhoods. In September 2019 he became the President and CEO of Riverlife. He leads a transformative agenda to create, activate, and celebrate Pittsburgh's riverfronts. Under his leadership, Riverlife has emerged as the indispensable leader in curating the riverfront experience and has achieved numerous milestones, including:
• Developing the "Completing the Loop" framework, a 21st-century and community-driven vision for Pittsburgh. This transformative plan has earned national recognition from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Planning Association (APA) for its innovative approach to urban design and planning.
• Successfully led a statewide initiative to increase the cap on the PA Waterfront Development Tax Credit to $5 Million.
• Garnering over $20 Million in public and philanthropic investment to support the repositioning of key riverfront parks and organizational initiatives.
• Developing a comprehensive campaign to secure resources and support for "Completing the Loop" of Pittsburgh’s riverfront parks and trails within ten years.
• Planning and implementing the first permanent care and maintenance fund to ensure a continuous, cohesive, world-class riverfront experience.
• Quadrupling Riverlife's staff capacity to execute the organization’s ambitious plans.
Before joining Riverlife, Matthew served as the executive director of Lawrenceville Corporation for nine years, where he facilitated over $200 million in public and private investments. He oversaw several catalytic neighborhood planning processes, including the creation and implementation of the first community land trust in Western Pennsylvania, the development of the Upper Lawrenceville Plan, and the facilitation of the Allegheny Green Boulevard Plan.
Matthew has also served on several boards, including the Radiant Hall Board of Directors (Chair), the URA’s New Market Tax Credit Advisory Board, and the Owen Galluzzo Memorial Fund. He holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School for Community Organization and Social Administration and a Bachelor’s degree from Thomas More College.
