ULI YLG successfully held an event in Pittsburgh at Shortys Pins x Pints on April 5th, 2022. Shorty’s is a funtainment/ bar concept complete with short pin bowling, arcade games, outdoor lawn games, and- of course- a selfie- photoshoot space (it is 2022)! The new concept opened one month prior to the event. To no surprise to the ULI YLG committee, the event sold out within a few days- over 50 attendees!
The highlight of the event was the Q/A session with the owner- Herky Pollock. Beyond being the co-owner of Shorty’s Herky is also the Executive Director and North East Director (former National Director) of the Retailer Services Group of CBRE. Suffice to say- he is an industry expert.
The Q/A lasted around 20-25 minutes and touched upon the struggles with opening a restaurant during the pandemic, the idea behind the concept, and the surprising issues that he ran into with a container kitchen.
Herky also answered audience members’ questions regarding the exciting future of the North Side, his go-to karaoke song, and where to invest in the Burgh!
The event was a smash hit!
The ULI YLG of Pittsburgh is aggressively ramping up its programming for the rest of the year. Our next event is a tour of the Helm in the Strip District.
